When it comes to family experiences, Sheffield’s got plenty up its sleeve. Whether you’re planning a weekend wander, somewhere to refuel after the kids have burned off some energy, or a proper sit-down meal that feels like more than just “grabbing tea”, there’s no shortage of options.
From leafy parks to industrial heritage spots, the city is packed with areas that lend themselves perfectly to relaxed, easy-going family dining!
Here’s a look at a few of our favourite parts of Sheffield for eating out with the kids – and where to head if you fancy making a full evening of it…

Kelham Island – Riverside Walks & Relaxed Bites
If you’ve spent the morning exploring Kelham Island Museum or strolling along the River Don, Kelham’s a cracking spot to stop off for a bite.
The area’s known for its independent cafés, laid-back brunch spots and relaxed atmosphere. It’s ideal if you’re after casual family-friendly dining – somewhere you can park up with a pushchair, grab a sandwich or a coffee and cake, and take your time.
It’s less about big occasions and more about easy afternoons. Perfect for low-key family experiences where the focus is simply being together.

Botanical Gardens & Ecclesall Road – Weekend Strolls & Sweet Treats
A wander around Sheffield Botanical Gardens is a Sheffield classic. Open space, room for the kids to explore, and plenty of photo opportunities if you’re that way inclined.
Just up on Ecclesall Road, you’ll find plenty of child-friendly places to eat – with independent bakeries to cosy cafés serving up light lunches and weekend brunch. It’s a great shout for daytime family dining, especially when the sun’s out and everyone’s in a good mood.
It’s busy at peak times, but there’s a proper neighbourhood feel about it that makes it a popular choice for families.

City Centre – Shopping Days & Plenty of Choice
Heading into town for a shopping trip or a visit to the Winter Garden? The city centre gives you loads of options all within walking distance.
From quick bites to bigger sit-down meals, it’s easy to find family-friendly dining in the heart of Sheffield. It’s lively, it’s convenient, and there’s something for all tastes – which is handy when you’ve got fussy eaters in tow.
That said, it can get busy, especially on weekends. Great for convenience and variety, but maybe not always the most relaxed setting for larger family gatherings.

Hillsborough & Owlerton – Proper Family Nights Out
When you’re after something that feels like more than just a quick meal, Hillsborough – and particularly Owlerton Stadium – offers a different kind of family experience.
With easy parking and plenty of space, it’s a great option for bigger groups or multi-generational get-togethers. The Panorama Restaurant regularly runs seasonal offers like Kids Eat Free during selected school holidays (including the Easter holidays), making family dining that bit easier on the wallet.
There’s a dedicated kids menu packed with favourites – think chicken goujons, fish fingers and even a sweet Belgian waffle for dessert – which is exactly what you want when you’re looking for reliable, child-friendly places to eat.
Special occasions are covered too. Events like Mother’s Day come with thoughtfully put-together packages, three-course menus for adults and children, and even a free gift for Mum – the kind of touches that turn a meal into a memory.
And if you fancy stretching the evening out a bit longer, there’s live music Fridays and Saturdays after the racing. A new act each week means you can stay, have a dance, and turn dinner into a full night out.
The Meet the Stars experience is always a hit, giving the kids the chance to meet the greyhounds, hear their stories and snap a few selfies too. It’s that mix of food, atmosphere and entertainment that makes it a well-known family-friendly restaurant Sheffield locals come back to time and again.

Sheffield’s Got It Covered
Sheffield’s full of brilliant spots for eating out with the kids – whether you’re grabbing a quick bite after a park run-around or planning a proper sit-down celebration. Whatever kind of family experiences you’re after, there’s somewhere to suit.
And if you fancy something a bit different next time – a meal, a bit of atmosphere, and maybe even a dance – you know where we are.
