Sheffield has a lively motorsport scene, hosting regular speedway and stock car racing events at Owlerton Stadium. Located over the road from Hillsborough Stadium, home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Owlerton Stadium has become the home of Sheffield Tigers Speedway Team and Yorstox short oval motorsport events.
Together, Sheffield speedway and stock car events bring a healthy dose of high-octane motorsport to the Steel City. In speedway, teams race from May to October around the country, across three leagues. In stock car racing, Owlerton Stadium regularly hosts a mix of BriSCA Formula One and Two meetings, Monster Trucks, and banger racing events.

Speedway: Fast and Furious
Speedway is a true spectator sport. These bikes use fixed gears, have no brakes, and virtually no suspension. The thrill-seeking riders experience the same acceleration as a Formula 1 car. Competing in the toughest British league, the Sheffield speedway team compete with 500cc single cylinder bikes around an oval track, over 15 heats of 4-lap races. These bikes are so fast, they complete each heat in around 60 thrilling seconds.
During a race meeting, points are awarded to individual riders which, on aggregate, decides the winning team. Furthermore, a riders’ overall ‘form guide’ is dictated by their individual points tally, which in turn influences their team position. Competing for themselves and their team, speedway riders are known for all out speed and excitement as 4 riders go wheel to wheel for the chequered flag.

Stock Car Racing: Aggression, Speed, Strategy
F1 stock cars are the highest spec of all racing classes. Fitted with a V8 engine, these 650 bhp cars are not for the feint hearted. Ever-exhilarating, UK stock car racing allows drivers to make contact with other cars. If a driver is unable to pass their opponent by speed alone, they can hit or push the other driver out of the way. Aggression, speed, and strategy make for a sensational spectator sport. When the green flag waves havoc ensues.
