Charity hoping to boost funds
The Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) is stepping up its fundraising as it looks to move to new premises.
The Trust, which is currently based at Gosling Moor Farm in Wortley and aims to find loving homes for retired greyhounds, is now hoping to raise as much money as possible to help fund a move to new facilities.
The relocation aims to provide larger kennel space for additional dogs in a more private setting.
Supported by Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, the Trust had one of its most successful years to date in 2014 with a total of 112 cute canines going to their forever homes. Roy and Lynda Cattlin who run the farm, along with a committed team of volunteers, dedicate their time to finding homes for retired greyhounds when their racing days are over.
John Gilburn, chair of the Sheffield RGT and managing director of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “We are really excited about our plans for the RGT as we look to move to new premises and secure the future of the Trust. We hope the local community will support us in this as we continue with our fundraising and efforts to promote greyhound adoption.
“More and more people are seeing what lovely, affectionate dogs greyhounds are and Sheffield RGT works incredibly hard to match dogs with new owners. Greyhounds are an incredibly docile breed so make great family pets and they can be a great choice for older people looking for a companion.
“We would encourage people thinking about getting a dog to get in touch but also to consider the Sheffield RGT as a charity to support. Any funds will be gratefully received especially as we embark on a fresh chapter in new surroundings.”
The Sheffield RGT needs to continually raise in excess of £100,000 each year.
Since its formation in 2006, the Trust, which is heavily subsidised by Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, has found new homes for more than 1,000 retired greyhounds.
